Welcome.

Welcome!

Gita_1Welcome!

This blog is my attempt to include you as I start on a journey of spiritual exploration. This exploration is going to be largely based on what I read /listen, my own grasp of what I take in and my reactions.  I am hoping that a few of you will perhaps be my companions in this journey and provide fodder for active discussion, while others may just be bemused observers. In any case, I need at least a few of you to encourage me as I struggle through the material and exhort me to keep up the studies (and the corresponding posts on this blog).

You may ask – why the Bhagavad Gita as the material to start this journey? It seems to me an obvious place to begin. Ask any one, or look up any reference, you will be told that it is the essence of spiritual wisdom.   It is also an easy place to start because there is so much material readily available. It is also widely read – in fact some of you probably already read it many times, and heard many a lecture on it. So I can expect your help as I struggle with some meaning or concept.

So please post a clarifying comment, start a dialog, point to some interesting or related information as I post; or at the very least just send a nagging note in case I do not keep on moving in my journey. I am hoping to post twice or thrice a month.

  1. Godspeed on your journey, Raja. It was always important for me to distinguish between being religious and being spiritual – the Bhagvad Gita in my few readings forms more the basis for spirituality than a pillar of religion and the divine nature of Lord Krishna is a sidenote to the thoughts that he espouses.

  2. Good to see this take shape. I recall our conversation in Nov last year. The home study course of Swami Dayananda Saraswathi (DS) and the MP3 lectures of his disciple Swami Parmarthananda (SP) go hand in hand, both of which you have. Suggest start off listening to the Gita summary first of PS and then each verse from the study course (DS) and the corresponding segment from PS.

  3. Good to see that you have already started.
More than the reading of the Bhagvath Gita, the way you understand it or interpret it is of utmost importance. Introspection after every part that you have read is the essence of Bhagvath Gita. Your views shared on this blog will enlighten all of us reading your views. And the response that you get with others’ views, will enlighten everyone else including you. In this method you have just started a chain of good thoughts and views for sharing among friends. God Bless you and wish you God speed. Gopi

  4. A very long journey but not tiresome for a determined mind. Regarding “Gita” introductory words of swami Chinmaya-“If Upanishads are the text books of philosophical principles of man, world and God, the Geetha is a handbook of instructions to how every human being can come to live the subtle philosophical principles of Vedanta in the actual work- a- day world”. This needs repeated reading to digest its substance

  5. hi Sesh!

It is beautiful to start one’s spiritual journey with Bhagavat Gita.

Gita is supposed to be the essence of Upanishad and is meant to start the worldly active people like us on to the path of spirituality as generally we have short attention spans and the degree of concentration required for deeper meditation is missing.

    All the best
